Liva Olive Groves

In the dunes of the northern part of Kalamata and at the foothills of Taygetos, the heart of the LIVA OLIVE OIL is beating. The original olive grove of the LIVA Family since 1980 has been managed by the KRIMNIANIOTIS family.

It is an olive grove of organic cultivation which, with particular love and care, produces LIVA olive oil, the first Greek olive oil that was characterized as Health Claim, accompanied by the corresponding chemical and organoleptic analyzes and traceability leading to the specific trees that produce it.

Health Claim for Olive Oil? What is this?

European Regulation 432/2012 (L 136 / 25.5.2012, p. 26), Health Claim for Olive Oil states:

“….Nutrient Ingredients: Polyphenols of Olive Oil

Claim: Olive oil polyphenols help protect blood lipids from oxidative stress.

Terms of use of the claim: the claim can only be used for olive oil containing at least 5mg of hydroxytyrosol and its derivatives (eg oil and tyrosol complex) per 20g of olive oil. In order to use this claim, the consumer should be given the information that the beneficial effects are ensured by the daily intake of 20g of olive oil

LIVA Olive Oil produces exclusively health-protective olive oil, with environment-friendly methods of cultivation, harvesting, cold-pressed production by mechanical means, standardization and transportation of olive oil.

Olive oil polyphenols help protect the blood lipids from oxidative stress. The oleocanthal, oleasin and derivatives complex, contained in olive oil at a concentration of >250mg / Kg, has protective properties for our health and a positive impact on the prevention of heart attacks in the treatment of inflammation, and recent studies have shown that they are shielding the human body against Alzheimer’s disease and a number of other diseases (see the STUDIES).

Polyphenols are measured in specialised laboratories with more reliable the ones based on NMR methodology, where the nuclear spectrometer analyzes all phenols and their size. The sum of the phenols, tyrosol derivatives and hydroxytyrosol derivatives is indicated by the D3 index (Davis …). Clinical investigations use olive oil with a specific D3 value. So, as all olive oils are not the same, all olive oils bearing the Health Claim Certification (D3> 250mg / Kg) are not the same, and should be categorized according to the D3 index.

OLIVE OIL LIVA, for the convenience of the consumer, classifies olive oil into five categories depending on the phenol content.

  • DIAMOND D3> 1000mg / Kg
  • PLATINUM D3> 600mg / Kg
  • GOLD D3> 350mg / Kg
  • SILVER D3> 250mg / Kg
  • CLASSIC D3> 200mg / Kg

The first three are marked HEALTH CLAIM and the other two are HEALTH PHILOSOPHY.
