For the third consecutive year, LIVA olive oil is awarded the golden prize
Professor Prokopis Magiatis hands over the golden prize for LIVA olive oil to Mary and Nikos Krimmnianiotis.
The award ceremony was held on 17 May in Athens, at an event held in the Old Parliament. The award ceremony took place in the framework of the events of the European program Interreg MED “Aristoil”, which includes Greece, Cyprus, Spain, Italy and Croatia.
The award ceremony was organized by the University of Athens and the non-profit organization World Olive Center for Health. The competition was launched in 2016 at the International Olympic Academy in Ancient Olympia with 565 entries from 15 countries. In 2017, there were 800 entries and this year it was held with more than 2,000 entries. This year was the largest international olive oil competition worldwide in terms of number of entries.
The awards are given solely according to the amount of health protective substances in each olive oil product, as described in European Health Claim Regulation, and are awarded to the producers for their care for the production and promotion of olive oil, as a product for the protection of human health.
More than 400 producers, standardizers and scientists attended very important scientific communications on the health effects of olive oil.
At the awards ceremony, Dr. Nikos Krimmnianiotis (LIVA Groves owner and coordinator of the European project Aristoil), presented the development of the project and the main actions that will take place in 2018.
